career path for introverts
Spread the love

Hey y’all!

Today’s topic is about introverts! Do you consider yourself an introverted person? Do you need alone time? Do you hate being told what to do? Would you rather work in a quiet and calm environment?

If your answer to all or most of the previous questions is affirmative, then keep on reading this article.

When it comes to having an introverted personality, it’s hard to find a job that fits your needs and desires in the corporate world.

I know that there’s not a “one size fits all” job or career path for introverts because our passions or interests are not the same, no matter how alike our personalities are.

However, from my experience I can tell you that there’s a particular career path that fits the introverted personality traits, and this is what I’m going to discuss next.

A little bit about me

Being an introvert myself, I always felt like I didn’t fit in and I didn’t really know what I wanted to dedicate my life to.

Even though there were some jobs that required to do tasks that I kind of liked, there was not career path or job that fitted who I really was.

I remember that I started an architecture degree but didn’t really see myself being an architect all my life. I didn’t feel comfortable being in a class with over 70 people.

Then I went to a training school where I studied international trade and there I had a better experience. We were a group of 10 people in class and the environment was more calm, I had a better time concentrating and learning.

I also worked as an intern at a factory and even though I didn’t have to talk with my co-workers all the time, I didn’t like being supervised and the fact that the machines made a lot of noise was annoying.

I didn’t really know what it was that I wanted to do after finishing the internship, but I knew what I didn’t want.

Then I started exploring non-traditional jobs, I started searching if it was possible to work from home and whether it was true that people (apart from big corporations) were making money online.

I remember when I almost fall for a paid surveys scam, it sounded too good to be true like most online scams. But I did my research before making any purchase and when I found out negative comments from people who had been scammed, I kind of lost hope.

I was like “is there anyone who makes money online in a legit way or it’s all a scam?”. I felt quite frustrated, deep inside I had the hope that the online world was not only inhabited by bad wolves.

What’s this career path about?

I found out a way to work from home online and haven’t looked back since then.

There are many online jobs and opportunities thanks to which you can work from home like customer service jobs, virtual assistant, community manager, copy writer, programmer, translator…

Some of those jobs I’ve mentioned aren’t necessarily work at home jobs (some can be done at a corporate office) and not all of them are a good fit for introverts. For example: telemarketing and customer service jobs would require you to talk too much, something I wouldn’t personally like.

Apart from that, those jobs require you to work a certain amount of hours per day, and if you stop working, you stop getting paid, so they don’t give you much freedom.

So this career path I chose is about promoting other people’s products (yes, you don’t need to create your own products) and earning commissions for each sale I make.

I promote those products online so I don’t have to talk to people face to face. Another thing I love about this is the fact that I have a flexible schedule, I can choose the hours I want to work. As long as I get the daily tasks done, it doesn’t matter the moment of the day I do it.

Some years ago I didn’t think it was possible to work on this. You don’t need any kind of degree to do this and no experience is required. Don’t get me wrong, having prior experience is an advantage, but you can learn to do this from scratch.

If you shop online, you may have bought something on stores like Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, Walmart… What if you promoted a product that you like instead of purchasing it? You could get paid commissions each time you sold a product.

Lots of online stores and companies offer affiliate programs, which they let you join for free. If you help them make sales, they’ll pay you.

When you join a company’s affiliate program, they’ll give you a personal link that you’ll use to take people to the product’s page. That link also serves to track the purchases someone makes through it. Without it you won’t get credit because there will be no way to know when someone has purchased a product thanks to you.

There are many ways to promote products or services online: on forums, on social networks, on an email list, on a website.

The way I recommend that you do it is by creating a website. If you have lots of followers on social media or have lots of subscribers, then you can do it there too, but if that’s not the case, you won’t make many sales.

You can also do paid advertising to get traffic to the product you’re promoting, but if you’re on a low budget it may not be the best option to get started.

I believe building a website to do this business is very important because it’s completely yours, it’s your online platform, your online asset. You have control over it and you can post and promote what you want.

Note that building a website is not difficult nowadays, you can do it in a few minutes and there’s a place where you can get two free websites (more on this later).

Keep in mind that you also want to create valuable content related to the products you want to promote. It’s essential that what you post is relevant to the people who are interested in what you’re promoting.

If you only post links, your visitors will exit your website. What would you do if you came across a website that only has links but any kind of explanation? I would leave it because I wouldn’t know what it’s about and wouldn’t click a link without knowing what I’m getting into.

This thing I do is called affiliate marketing. I wrote a post that you can check out to know more about this business model and the benefits that come with it.

What are the benefits of having an online business for introverts?

Having the kind of business I’ve talked about in the last section has many benefits for introverted people. Let’s see some of them below:

  • You can choose your schedule. You can work at the time it’s better for you. As long as you get things done, you can choose to work early in the morning or late at night, it’s up to you. You can also choose when to take breaks and you don’t have to worry about being late at work.
  • You are your own boss. You get to decide your schedule as I said before, you are the one who chooses who to work with, you can choose your vacations and you can also have control over your income.
  • You can work anywhere. You don’t have to be stuck at the same office every single day and you don’t need to get up at a certain hour and drive to work. You can work wherever you can take your laptop with you and there’s an Internet connection, and with this comes more freedom.
  • You don’t have to talk to anyone. You don’t have to talk to anyone face to face, there’s no one that will interrupt you while working (unless there’s a lot of people living with you lol). Yes, you’ll have to interact with people who comment on your site or people who send you important emails, but it’s not the same as working in an office where you have to talk face to face with your co-workers or your boss.

What’s the best place to get started?

There’s a digital marketing platform where you can get step-by-step training, courses, video trainings and more that will teach you to start an affiliate marketing business and take it to the next level.

That platform is full of bloggers and online entrepreneurs who are in the same path as you and will help you and support you along the way. The good thing is that you are not forced to interact with anyone, you can talk with them whenever you want.

I’ve been in this platform called Wealthy Affiliate for over a year now and I’m very comfortable there. Most of the community members are kind and supportive and there’s no better place to learn, in my opinion.

Another thing is, this platform has existed for more than 12 years already and the owners and people who work behind the scenes keep updating and improving it in a daily basis. This shows how legit this place is, most scam products don’t last in the long term.

I also love the fact that they offer a free membership so you can start without spending a dime, it’s risk free. You’ll get the 2 free websites I mentioned in the previous section, some training and more with this membership.

You only need to complete a form with your name, your email address, a password and a username to see how this platform is and decide whether it’s for you or not. When you join for free, you’ll get a welcome message from me and other members and will be on your way to get started.

I also wrote a detailed review of Wealthy Affiliate that you can read if you would like to learn more about this platform.
